The trail system here this year has been awesome, the groomer operators do a wonderful job, I often tell people I know from out of the area, that "if you want good trails, visit monroe county". I think the trail conditions are a tribute to the people who oversee the groomer operations on all levels through out the county, I was out on saturday, and ventured into another county (which shall remain nameless)GOD, was I glad when I made it back to monroe trails, you guys do an awesome job, makes it a pleasure to live and snowmobile here, lets pray for these kinds of conditions next year!!!!!

 Current Trail Report

JANUARY 6, 2009

WE  DID REOPENED ONLY PARTS OF OUR TRAILS SYSTEM !               PLEASE STAY OFF THE CLOSED TRAILS!

WE REOPENED TRAILS NORTH OF SPARTA TOWARDS CATARACT, NORTH OF TOMAH TOWARDS WARRENS, AND THE ELROY-SPARTA BIKE TRAIL AND IT'S BYPASSES OVER THE TUNNELS ONLY AT THIS TIME.  THE LACROSSE RIVER TRAIL WILL ALSO BE OPEN FROM SPARTA TO ROCKLAND ONLY! NO BRANCH OFF TRAILS!

THE TRAIL BETWEEN TOMAH AND SPARTA IS STILL CLOSED AT THIS TIME!

TRAIL CONDITIONS ARE NOT IDEAL, HOWEVER THEY ARE RIDEABLE ON THESE TRAILS ONLY. THE GROOMERS HAVE BEEN RUNNING ON THESE TRAILS TRYING TO BREAK UP THE ICE CRUST AND MIX IN THE NEW SNOW.

WE ARE RECEIVING REPORTS THAT THE TRAILS NORTH OF TOMAH TOWARDS WARRENS ARE IN GOOD RIDING CONDITION.

WE DID RECEIVE LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE OVERNIGHT LAST NIGHT SO ROADS ARE VERY SLIPPERY. THE TRAILS ARE ALSO QUITE ICY AND SLIPPERY ALSO DUE TO THIS LATEST PRECIPITATION.

PLEASE STAY ONLY ON THESE TRAILS. RIDGE TOPS ARE BARE IN MOST SPOTS AND HILLS MAY BE ICY AND SLIPPERY. USE CAUTION UNTIL WE EITHER GET MORE SNOW OR GET WHAT SNOW WE HAVE WORKED UP MORE.

WE WILL REOPEN THE REST OF THE TRAILS AS CONDITIONS IMPROVE!       DO NOT ASSUME YOU CAN RIDE EVERYWHERE AT THIS POINT!

TRAIL CONDITIONS FOR NEIGHBORING COUNTIES CAN BE FOUND AT THESE LOCATIONS:

*STATEWIDE COUNTY REPORTS*       www.travelwisconsin.com

*LACROSSE COUNTY*          www.laxsnowmobile.com

  *JUNEAU COUNTY*   www.castlerockriverrunners.com

PLEASE CHECK NEIGHBORING COUNTIES FOR TRAIL CONDITIONS AND OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS.

PLEASE USE GOOD JUDGEMENT THIS YEAR AND STAY ON THE MARKED TRAILS ONLY. DO NOT ASSUME YOU ARE ALLOWED TO RIDE ALL OVER THAT BEAUTIFUL UNTOUCHED HILLSIDE, JUST BECAUSE THE TRAIL RUNS NEXT TO IT. IT MAY BE SOME NEW CROP OR EVEN SOMEONES LAWN.

THERE ARE A FEW MINOR TRAIL REROUTES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. PLEASE USE CAUTION DURING THE FIRST FEW RIDES TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THESE CHANGES.

IF YOU ARE A SNOWMOBILER AND WOULD LIKE TO JOIN A CLUB OR HELP OUT IN ANY WAY, FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ANY OF THE LOCAL CLUBS OR CONTACT THIS WEBSITE AND WE WILL PUT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!

EVERY LITTLE BIT OF HELP MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE!

ATTENTION NON-RESIDENT SNOWMOBILERS - Friday, December 07, 2007

Snowmobiles bearing Wisconsin registration are not required to have a non-resident trail pass, even if the owner is from out of state. A 2 year Wisconsin registration is $30, compared to 2 trail passes at $18. Due to the formula used to transfer gas tax revenue to the state snowmobile fund, about twice as much money is generated with a 2 year registration as is with 2 trail passes. The state snowmobile fund is where the money comes from for grooming and trail maintenance. By having Wisconsin registration instead of a trail pass, you save $3/yr and contribute more money to the state fund.

It is perfectly legal to have Wisconsin registration on your snowmobile in addition to your home state's registration. You do not need a Wisconsin address; your home address can be used for a Wisconsin registration. Once you have a Wisconsin registration, it can be renewed online at the DNR website. Wisconsin registration applications can be obtained at any DNR office, at any dealer who sells snowmobiles in Wisconsin, and at many dealers out of state near the Wisconsin border.
